Vor rund einem Monat hat Canon die EOS 6D Mark II angekündigt, erste Exemplare sind in der vergangenen Woche in Deutschland angekommen. Eines davon habe ich mir geschnappt und damit einen Nachmittag auf dem Teufelsberg in Berlin fotografiert. 

Der Teufelsberg in Berlin ist ein mächtiges Relikt aus der Zeit des Kalten Krieges. Bis Anfang der 90er Jahre thronten Abhöranlagen auf dem künstlichen Hügel, der aus dem Schutt und den Trümmern des Zweiten Weltkriegs fast 100 Meter hoch aufgetürmt wurde.

Wo einst Abhörspezialisten ihren Dienst versahen, ist inzwischen eine lebendige Künstlerszene eingezogen und hat es sich, so gut es geht, in den Ruinen eingerichtet. Eine interessante Location, in die Canon letzte Woche eingeladen hatte, um die EOS 6D Mark II im Einsatz zu präsentieren.

Die EOS 6D Mark II ist auf den ersten Blick eine klassische Kleinbild-DSLR – verglichen mit einer Spiegellosen wirkt sie plump, groß und schwer. Doch der Eindruck täuscht: Das Gehäuse ist mit seinem Gewicht von deutlich unter 800 Gramm (betriebsbereit) gar nicht so schwer, wie es zunächst aussieht. Und die Form mag zwar pummelig wirken, aber die EOS 6D II liegt (wie schon ihre praktisch identisch geformte Vorgängerin) nicht zuletzt dank ihres kräftig ausgeformten Frontgriffs hervorragend in der Hand.

Auch der Blick durch den optischen Sucher der Canon EOS 6D II hat mir gefallen. Der Sucher mit Pentaprisma deckt 98 Prozent des Bildausschnitts ab, die Sucherbildvergrößerung fällt mit 0,71x standesgemäß hoch aus. Wie groß und hell das Sucherbild der EOS 6D II ist, zeigte sich im Vergleich zur Einsteiger-DSLR EOS 200D, die Canon ebenfalls mit nach Berlin gebracht hatte.

Deutlich verbesserter Autofokus

Wer von seiner Kompaktkamera oder der Spiegellosen gewohnt ist, das Display als Sucher zu verwenden, muss sich bei der EOS 6D nicht umgewöhnen. Auf Knopfdruck schaltet sie in den Live-View-Modus, bei dem der rückwärtige Monitor zum elektronischen Sucher wird. Gefallen hat mir, wie schnell das Umschalten mit der EOS 6D II geht. Und dass das Display jetzt (erstmals bei einer Kleinbildkamera von Canon) frei beweglich ist – da gelingen auch bodennahe Aufnahmen ohne Verrenkungen und verschmutzte Kleidung.

Geradezu begeistert war ich jedoch davon, wie zügig und zuverlässig die EOS 6D II im Live-View-Modus scharf stellt. Zumindest beim statischen AF ist da kaum ein Unterschied zur einer guten Spiegellosen wahrzunehmen. Offenbar zahlt es sich aus, dass Canon nun der EOS 6D II ebenfalls den „Dual Pixel CMOS AF“ mit Phasenvergleichssensoren auf dem Bildwandler spendiert hat. Auf der Höhe der Zeit ist auch der Phasen-AF mit 45 Kreuzzensoren – ein deutlicher Fortschritt gegenüber der Vorgängerin, deren AF-System mit zehn Linien- und einem zentralen Kreuzsensor auskommen musste.

Mit ihrer Serienbildrate von maximal 6,5 Bilder/Sekunden bietet die EOS 6D II allerdings nur Hausmannskost. Anderseits: wer außer Sport- und Actionfotografen benötigt schon noch schnellere Aufnahmeserien?

Praktischer Touchscreen

Gerne gearbeitet habe ich mit dem berührungsempfindlichen Display der EOS 6D II. Es erlaubt nicht nur (im Live-View-Modus) die Schärfe per Fingertipper auf die gewünschte Bildpartie zu legen. Auch in den Menüs reagiert das Display auf Berührungen. Damit bedient man die EOS 6D II fast so flüssig und direkt wie ein Smartphone. Wessen Sache das nicht ist, der findet an der EOS 6D II nach wie vor viele dedizierte Knöpfchen, Rädchen und Schalter. Ebenfalls an Bord sind ein GPS-Modul (zum Geotagging der Fotos) sowie WLAN beispielsweise zur Fernsteuerung via Smartphone. Neu ist, dass sich die EOS 6D II auch via Bluetooth mit entsprechenden Geräten verbindet.

Bei Videoaufnahmen gibt sich die EOS 6D II etwas zurückhaltend, 4K-Auflösung bietet sie nicht. Immerhin filmt sie in Full-HD jetzt wahlweise auch mit 60 fps – für den Heimgebrauch sollte das ausreichen. Canon hat zudem ein Stereomikrofon im Gehäuse der EOS 6D II untergebracht, das interne Mikro der Vorgängerin konnte nur in mono aufzeichnen.

Bildqualität

Ein paar Stunden mit einer Kamera sind zu wenig Zeit, um die Bildqualität auf Herz und Nieren zu testen. Festhalten lässt sich aber: mit ihrem 26-Megapixel-Sensor im Kleinbildformat liefert die EOS 6D II für viele Fälle eine mehr als ausreichende Auflösung. Für meinen Geschmack gut abgestimmt hat Canon die JPEG-Aufbereitung: die Farben sind kräftig, aber keinesfalls zu sehr gesättigt, etwas geliftete Mikrokontraste vermitteln einen knackigen Bildeindruck. Zu viel des Guten ist jedoch, wie die Rauschunterdrückung bei höheren ISO-Werten eingreift. Aber das lässt sich glücklicherweise ja in der fein anpassbaren JPEG-Aufbereitung zurückdrehen.

Anders als viele Digitalkameras scheint mir die EOS 6D II etwas reichlicher zu belichten. Das führt „out of cam“ zu einem stimmigen Helligkeitseindruck, birgt allerdings die Gefahr ausfressender Lichter. Insbesondere wer in JPEG aufzeichnet, sollte tendenziell etwas knapper belichten. Der Spielraum für ausbrennende Lichter ist nämlich offenbar nicht sehr hoch.

Mein Fazit

Am meisten verblüfft hat mich, wie gut der Autofokus der EOS 6D II im Live-View-Modus arbeitet. So gesehen vereint die Kamera schon fast die Vorteile einer DSLR mit denen einer Spiegellosen. Ansonsten ist bei der EOS 6D II eher Hausmannskost statt Haute Cuisine angesagt: Etwa mit der  Serienbildrate von 6,5 Bilder/Sekunde, Videoaufnahmen nicht in 4K-Auflösung oder „nur“ 26,2 Megapixel Auflösung. Aber Hand aufs Herz: Braucht man im fotografischen Alltag wirklich mehr?

Was zudem für die EOS 6D II spricht: Von Canon gibt es ein immenses Objektivangebot – da ist für praktisch jedes Motiv und jeden Geldbeutel das Passende dabei. In diesem Sinne wird die EOS 6D II mit einer Preisempfehlung von knapp 2.100 Euro (ohne Objektiv) zwar nicht zum Schnäppchen, aber sicherlich zum soliden Angebot. Nicht nur als Zweitbody für den ambitionierten Fotografen, sondern auch für alle, die sich eine gute Kleinbildkamera leisten wollen.
