Interesting...
Although I enjoy all this pixel peeping, the fact is that very few people will ever look at any picture at 1oo% crops or ever notice the difference between lenses since to see the difference you have to look at a lens at its wide open setting. The overwhelming majority of d800 buyers will be well heeled enthusiasts that will never approach the limits of the camera's ultimate capabilities. Though nikon professional lenses are needed to exploit the cameras ultimate capabilities it doesnt mean that non proffesional glass will produce bad results. In fact they will be excellent at the sizes that the great majority of users will ever use. The imperfections that look so obvious at 1:1 are imperceptible at the common user print sizes. Same thing goes for ISO, though the great ISO reproduction may be critical for some professional users, again the majority of users will rarely if ever need more than ISO 1600. Furtheremore, regarding vigneting and lens distortion "issues" essentially all are resolved by the D800 itself with its internal JPEG processing algorithms, you will never even know they were there!!! SO pixel peeping is great and fun to find out which camara is "better" but it should be taken with a grain of salt. The d800 will taking amazing photographs and produce amazing normal size images even if all you ever take is jpegs in program mode and use less than stellar lenses. What is great of the D800 is that though that is true, it is also a perfect tool for the professional that requires the best possible image quality available.
